After a big weekend of high school football the stage has been set for the 2018 MHSAA 11 team football championship and in Division 4 the Chelsea Bulldogs will be taking on the Edwardsburg Eddies at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit this Friday at 7:30 P.M.
The Bulldogs with their balanced attack finished 6-3 in the regular season with losses to Jackson, Ypsilanti Lincoln, and Alpena. They had to take a bit of a rough road to get here playing all 3 of their games on the road outscoring their opponents 84-49. They defeated the Williamston Hornets in Walled Lake on a mutual site Saturday 38-13 to punch their second ticket to the state championship game. Their first was was in 2015 when they fell to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 29-12.
They will be taking on the Edwardsburg Eddies (13-0) who defeated 8-time state champion and perennial powerhouse Grand Rapids Catholic Central 46-44 in overtime in a rematch of last years state championship game, where they fell to GRCC 42-31. The Eddies have made the semifinals 5 of the last 8 years. They have put up 677 points on the season with their high octane offense and have only surrendered 131 points, 44 of those in their game against GRCC. They had 5 shutouts on the season.
The Bulldogs only matchup with the Eddies was in the 2016 Regional final where they were defeated on their home field in overtime 42-40, on a failed two-point conversion.
