Williamston Comes From Behind To Edge Out Haslett

Haslett, MI. – The Haslett Vikings came out strong as they hosted the Williamston Hornets in girls JV mid-Michigan basketball action. Playing a solid defense they forced many miscues and turnovers from the Hornets and took an early lead. But the Hornets fought and clawed their way back to enter halftime knotted up at 20 points apiece.

After the half, the Vikings again came out strong and limited the Hornets to only five points in the quarter. As time was running short in the final stanza and things looking bleak Hornet Head Coach Brian Kent took a much needed time out to regroup his girls. The Hornets came out on fire shutting down the Vikings and hitting deep shots from the perimeter to pull within 5 points.

With 2 minutes to go the Hornets tied things up then took the lead on a Sydney Feig shot which she was fouled on. Sinking the free throw, the Hornets took a 3 point lead but the Vikings Audrey Archambault hit a huge deep 3 point shot to tie things up. The Hornets took the lead again but it was Archambault again hitting another clutch 3 for her Vikings with 38 seconds left.

With the game tied at 44 and 13.3 seconds left Haslett fouled Williamston sending them to the line where they sank both free throws and with the lack of time left for the Vikings, were able to escape with a big 48-45 victory.

Feig led the Hornets with 14 points, while Anna Mann put up 12 along with 7 rebounds. Freshman Sophie Cook had a great game netting 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assist.
